research (~) euforic current issues, food for thought, background information
European countries have long invested in research and learning on development and international cooperation issues. Each country typically has one or more research institutes that often also provide teaching and consultancy services to the community. There are also some specialized information services and networks - like Euforic itself - operating at the European and national levels.
Beyond the small number of networks and resources mentioned here, there are dozens of individual research institutes whose work can be accessed through other sources (several are listed in our research feedfinder).

development networks and associations
The leading professional network for development and regional studies is the European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI). It has particularly strong links with the Inter-regional Coordinating Committee of Development Associations (ICCDA) - a world-wide network of Development Associations. Examples of active national associations are the Development Studies Association (DSA) in the UK and Ireland and the Development Policy Review Network (DPRN) in the Netherlands and Belgium.
sector-specific resources
Within the general 'development' arena, all kinds of issue- and sector-specific services exist to disseminate research and connect researchers. In trade, there are portals focused on ACP-EU trade (by ECDPM) and ACP-EU agricultural trade negotiations (by CTA); researchers in tropical forestry cluster in a European Tropical Forest Research Network (ETFRN); people interested in anti-corruption can visit the Utstein Anti-Corruption Resource Centre; while the European Centre for Conflict Prevention (ECCP) hosts a platform on the prevention and/or resolution of violent conflicts.
Some platforms have geographic specialisations, such as the Connecting-Africa portal of the Africa Studies Centre in Leiden.
international relations and security
Beyond 'classic' development cooperation, the European Information Network on International Relations and Area
Studies (EINIRAS) brings together information and documentation activities of European international relations research institutes. A major information resource of the EINIRAS group is the International Relations and Security Network (ISN) that collects, manages, and shares specialized information for the international relations and security community.
development information services
In recent years, various specialized information services have grown up to support development research dissemination and application. The largest in Europe is ELDIS which is hosted, with a family of other services (notably ID21), by the Institute of Development Studies in Brighton. Much interest has been expressed by research funders in strategies to ensure that research results are used - the RAPID programme at ODI has been researching this issue. The Research for Development portal brings together all research funded by the UK's DFID.
